Sam Hughes School
Sam Hughes School
Join us for the 5th annual Toast to Teachers benefit for Sam Hughes Elementary school. This year we're having a "Roaring 20's" theme, so pull out your spats and your best flapper dress to dance the night away. Your ticket price includes delicious food provided by Hotel Congress and unlimited tastings. Buy your tickets now.

All the money we raise through Toast to Teachers will go to our parent teacher association (PTA) for use in continuing our school’s tradition of project-based learning (the money pays for everything from teacher trainings, to materials, to the technology we need to support our efforts.) For more information about project-based learning you can visit this website: http://www.edutopia.org/project-based-learning-introduction-video

Opened in 1927, we are one of the oldest elementary schools in Tucson. Our school is named after a pioneering merchant who was instrumentalin promoting public education in Tucson. Currently we have 343 students enrolled in kindergarten through grade five.

We are a small neighborhood school that is nestled in the heart of the historic Sam Hughes Neighborhood. The University of Arizona is two blocks west of us and we enjoy our close proximity in a variety of ways. Both the opportunities we have to explore our past through our historic connections, and the ability to see into the future with our ties to the University of Arizona, help to make us a truly unique school.

At our school we offer:

  • Project-based learning
  • OMA Gold programs
  • Chess and PE
  • Art through the Art Partnership program
  • Collaborations with the U of A
  • Active Parent involvement
  • Expanded facilities including state of the art library and multipurpose room
  • A variety of after school enrichment classes
  • Active Site Council that participates in shared decision making with school administration
  • Experienced teaching staff and tremendous parent involvement
  • Use of Investigations Mathematics Curriculum
  • Full Day Kindergarten
  • After school care (see Happy Hours)

We are so thankful for this year's generous Toast to Teachers sponsors.
